SUN 'n FUN RECAP

Every spring, pilots, aviation nerds, dreamers, and anyone who simply loves airplanes descend on Lakeland, Florida for what has become one of the most anticipated aviation gatherings in the world—SUN ’n FUN Aerospace Expo.

The 2025 edition, held April 1–6 at Lakeland Linder International Airport, once again lived up to its nickname: “Spring Break for Pilots.” With more than 200,000 attendees, thousands of aircraft, and six days of nonstop aviation activity, SUN ’n FUN proved once again why it’s one of the largest and most energetic aviation events in the United States.

For anyone who loves the smell of avgas in the morning and the thunder of jet engines in the afternoon, Lakeland was the place to be. From the moment the gates opened, the airport transformed into a city of airplanes. Every corner of the ramp was packed with aircraft ranging from vintage taildraggers to cutting-edge military jets.

Pilots flew in from across the country, filling the grass parking areas with everything from Cubs and Champs to Bonanzas, Cirruses, and experimental homebuilts. Warbirds gleamed in the Florida sun while corporate aircraft and modern trainers showcased the future of aviation.

For many attendees, simply walking the flightline was half the experience—seeing hundreds of aircraft up close, swapping stories with owners, and dreaming about the next airplane project.

If the daytime shows were impressive, the night airshows were unforgettable.

As the sun set over Lakeland, the atmosphere shifted into something closer to a festival. The flightline lights dimmed, music echoed across the ramp, and the sky lit up with a mix of aerobatic aircraft, drone displays, and fireworks.

Airplanes flew with pyrotechnics mounted to their wings, leaving trails of sparks as they rolled and dove through the dark sky. Drone light formations added a modern twist to the show, creating shapes and patterns above the airport before fireworks erupted across the horizon.

It was aviation theater at its best.

As the final aircraft departed Lakeland and the crowds slowly faded, one thing was clear: SUN ’n FUN 2025 delivered another unforgettable year for aviation.

And if tradition holds, pilots everywhere are already marking their calendars and planning the trip back to Lakeland for next spring.
